Do You Have to Renew Your Skippers Ticket?

do you have to renew your skippers ticket

The Western Australian coast is one of the most picturesque in Australia (arguably the world) and the best way to explore it is by taking your skippers ticket test. By taking your skippers ticket test you will have the skippers ticket license in Perth or WA, and the confidence to navigate on the ocean, the Swan River, by yourself or with passengers.

With your skipper license, you can enjoy water sports, fishing trips or just casual trips on the water with friends and family. But what is the process of taking the Recreational Skippers Ticket (RST) test?

How often do you need to renew your skipper license? We will explore all of the processes to make this process simple and easy – so you can get out on the water faster.

What Is a Skipper’s License?

You need a license to drive on the road, it is the same on the water. Not only do you need to be familiar with marine laws and how to safely operate your boat, but you need to understand a range of conditions for boating in Western Australia as well.

This includes:

  • How to safely navigate to your destination and home
  • Map reading
  • Operating the onboard radio
  • Emergency procedures
  • Berthing
  • How to correctly use safety equipment
  • What every part and component on your vessel does

How Do I Get My Skipper License?

Please refer to our detailed guide on how to get a skippers ticket for detailed instructions. Fortunately, the process of taking your skippers ticket test is simple.

Sea Safe Boat School is the only training facility in Perth with a dedicated, air-conditioned classroom environment where you can work with experienced teachers and learn everything you need to know to pass both the written and practical tests. You will need to be over 18, pass an eye test and provide proof of identity, much the same as applying for your driver’s licence.

Then you will work face-to-face with our teachers who will assist you in every way to ensure you are competent and ready to take your skippers ticket test.

Do I Need to Renew My Recreational Skippers Ticket (Rst)?

While getting your Recreational Skippers Ticket (RST) might sound a lot like getting a driver’s licence, it is technically not a licence at all. That means there are no ongoing fees and no need to renew your RST at any point.

Once you are competent and have your ticket, you can look forward to a lifetime of fun and relaxation on the water. To gain access to the best teachers in the best learning environment (and the lowest skippers ticket cost) contact the team at Sea Safe Boat School.

We have a dedicated classroom for you to learn in, plus we are located at a safe and quiet location on the Swan River where you can prepare for your practical test without any stress or hassle. We also offer other courses, such as Boat Handling Course, VHF Radio Licence and Boating Refresher Course for you who want to elevate your boating ability.
