About Our Boat Courses

Depending on which course and how many, between 4 and 5 hours. Sea Safe Boat School in Perth course start times can vary slightly, so please leave at least 1 hour either side of your requested course start time.

There are 40 multiple choice questions, you must get 34 correct. If there is anything in the workbook that you don’t understand, write it down and ask your instructor to explain on the day of the course. We will do question & answer + revision with you on the day.

You must study the RST Workbook really well, not just glance at it. For the theory test, you can practice with our RST Quiz. Also watch the practical assessment DVD (will be emailed to you once you make a booking; very important). Pick a good tranquil location and get an experienced trainer (some only have very basic qualifications) with a good all-round vessel. Book your course early before the sea breeze comes in.

Study the workbook & watch the Practical Assessment DVD thoroughly and complete online practice questions. Pick your location carefully; some boat harbours are very busy with large ferries and boats in & out, also open to afternoon sea breezes. Try using the tranquil waters of the Swan River; it makes the driving assessment so much easier.

No problems, we have modern lecture rooms with heating/cooling and seating. Coffee/tea making facilities and iced water are provided. Lecture rooms are located in the beautiful Maylands Marina at 38 Hardey Road, Maylands.

We have only small groups with maximum of 6 available spots for each course/class. Many students have made new friends whom they met on the course.

A Skipper’s Ticket, sometimes also known as the Skipper’s License, is basically the driver’s license for boating. It may vary in each country. In Australia, it is more of a certificate than a license. It is issued to a person who operates boats. When someone has Skipper’s Ticket, you can be assured they can drive a boat.

Yes, a skippers ticket is required for operating recreational vessels in Western Australia. The RST is a nationally-recognized certificate of competency that shows the holder has the minimum knowledge and practical skills needed to operate a recreational vessel safely.

The youngest age requirement to obtain a Skippers Ticket or drive a boat in WA is 14 years old. From ages 14-17, the examiner will need a letter of consent from their guardian.

To get a replacement Recreational Skipper’s Ticket (RST) card in Western Australia, you can complete and submit an Application for a Replacement Card form to the Department of Transport. If your RST card has been damaaged, lost, or stolen, you must notify the Department within 21 days and request a replacement card.

Yes, a skippers ticket is required to operate a Personal Water Craft (PWC) or Jet Ski in Western Australia. The RST is required for any recreational vessel powered by a motor greater than 4.5kW (6 hp).
